Chactemal Bayside Plaza: A Transformative Beacon for Corozal Town

Belize City, Belize, February 27, 2024 – The Belize Tourism Board (BTB), in collaboration with the Corozal Town Council and Hon. Elvia Samos, Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs, and Corozal Bay Area Representative, officially broke ground today for the construction of the Chactemal Bayside Plaza. Situated along the picturesque Corozal Bay, this innovative seaside park promises to be a transformative endeavor for Corozal Town and its surrounding region.

The Chactemal Bayside Plaza is set to become a vibrant focal point, featuring a myriad of amenities aimed at enhancing the local community’s well-being and attracting tourism. The comprehensive design includes food kiosks, an artisan corner, an entertainment space, a dining area, restrooms, a playground, a pier, an art space, park benches, a swimming area, and a green space.

This project extends beyond the physical infrastructure and envisions a holistic experience that embraces the natural beauty of the region while fostering community engagement and economic growth. The strategic location along the Bay offers not only a stunning backdrop but also opportunities for diverse recreational activities, from leisure strolls along winding walkways to adventurous explorations via the pier.

In addition to providing recreational opportunities, the Chactemal Bayside Plaza will connect visitors to the rich cultural and historical tapestry of the region. Nearby archaeological sites like Cerros will add an extra layer of allure and educational value to the visitor experience.

The Plaza’s commitment to community involvement is evident through planned cultural presentations and events. This inclusivity is poised to transform the Plaza into a vibrant hub of social interaction and shared experiences. The initiative aims to enrich the socio-economic fabric of the area and strengthen the sense of belonging and pride among residents.

As the Chactemal Bayside Plaza takes shape, the project’s positive ripple effects are anticipated to attract visitors, stimulate economic activity, and foster a deeper connection between people and place. With careful planning and execution, this initiative has the power to leave a lasting legacy of prosperity and community spirit in Corozal Town and the surrounding area.

This groundbreaking signifies not only the physical construction of a remarkable destination but also BTB’s unwavering commitment to fostering tourism growth in northern Belize. The Chactemal Plaza is set to become a beacon of hospitality and a testament to BTB’s dedication to providing unique and memorable experiences for visitors.
