BTB SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF BELIZE TO UPDATE THE NATIONAL SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MASTER PLAN
Belize City, Belize, February 9th, 2022 – The Belize Tourism Board today signed an agreement with the University of Belize (UB) for a partnership that will see the national university updating the National Sustainable Tourism Master Plan of Belize. With COVID-19 having impacted the tourism sector globally, and creating significant market shocks, countries that seek to remain competitive in the travel industry must also evolve their plans to charter a renewed path to resurgence. The University of Belize, through its in-house team of local technical experts, along with a small team from the University of Melbourne in Australia, will be spearheading this process. The Consultancy will be executed over a 10 month period, and will invest heavily on spatial planning and industry-wide consultations with public, private and civil sector partners. This partnership was commemorated today with a signing ceremony, at which the Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, encapsulated the importance of this partnership and process:
“… this process is to ensure that our national plan and strategy for tourism integrates key and critical development factors.
