Belize City, Belize – January 30, 2026: Today, the village of Bullet Tree Falls in the Cayo District marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of a newly rehabilitated community center. Located in the heart of the village, the center is expected to provide residents with a modern and welcoming space to host a wide range of gatherings and community development activities.
The opening of the center was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Belize Tourism Board, under the leadership of the Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Anthony Mahler, and Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, and Logistics, and the Area Representative for Cayo North.
Renovation works to transform the facility into a functional community hub began in April 2025 and included the installation of new bathroom fixtures, upgraded windows and doors, electrical rewiring, new roofing, and freshly painted exterior and interior walls. The project was completed in December 2025.
In his keynote address, Hon. Anthony Mahler emphasized the importance of strengthening community infrastructure—and by extension the communities themselves—as part of Belize’s broader tourism and social development efforts.
Hon. Michel Chebat also highlighted the center’s role in fostering unity and opportunity within Bullet Tree Falls and extended his appreciation to Hon. Anthony Mahler for recognizing the importance of the center to the community and supporting its rehabilitation.
Mr. Tai Wu, Chairman of Bullet Tree Falls, also expressed his gratitude that the village now has a space for community events and important celebrations. The ceremony featured a special cultural presentation by the renowned Benque Viejo del Carmen marimba band, Los Hijos del West. The national anthem was led by students of Bullet Tree Falls Seventh Day Adventist School, and the prayer was delivered by students of Immaculate Conception R.C. School.
In addition to serving as a hub for community programs, cultural engagement, and activities for generations to come, the Bullet Tree Community Center will also function as a designated hurricane shelter when needed.
