Belize City, Belize – October 30, 2025: Coinciding with the observance of San Narciso Day, residents of San Narciso Village, in the Corozal District, celebrated the inauguration of their first-ever community market on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The project was made possible through the efforts of the Belize Tourism Board, under the leadership of the Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports, and Diaspora Relations, Hon. Anthony Mahler, with support from the Corozal South West Representative and Minister of State for Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, Hon. Ramiro Ramirez.
The San Narciso Market features 18 stalls and will serve as a vibrant space for local farmers and entrepreneurs to sell fresh produce, plants, and other goods directly to the community. Construction began in early 2025 and was completed on October 24, 2025. Beyond boosting livelihoods, the new facility is expected to enhance the village’s economic sustainability and provide farmers with an accessible, organized space to showcase and sell their products.
“This market will not only bring produce from farms to our tables but also serve as a gathering space for the community,” said Hon. Anthony Mahler. “Culture and food are among the leading reasons why people travel today, and spaces like this help to preserve both.”
Also present to deliver remarks at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Hon. Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labor and Local Government, Hon. Gilroy Usher Sr., Minister of State for Public Utilities, Energy, and Logistics, Hon. Alex Balona, Minister of State for Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, His Excellency Gerardo Argote, Ambassador of Venezuela to Belize, and Mr. Idelfonso Acosta, Chairman of San Narciso Village.
The construction of the market aligns with the Belize Tourism Board’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based tourism infrastructure across the country. The facility will be managed by the San Narciso Village Council, ensuring sustainable operation and community ownership.
